Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has set a new record by winning the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Player of the Year award for the third time.

He received the award at the PFA ceremony in Manchester on August 19, surpassing football legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Kevin De Bruyne, and Gareth Bale, who have each won the award twice.

Salah, 33, scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists last season, playing a pivotal role that helped Liverpool clinch the English Premier League title.

Salah previously won this award twice in 2018 and 2022.

Liverpool’s dominance was further highlighted as four of their players — Mohamed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister, Virgil van Dijk, and Ryan Gravenberch — were named in the PFA Team of the Year.

This is the first time since 2017 that no Manchester City player has been included, reflecting a challenging season for Pep Guardiola’s side.

In the women’s category, Arsenal’s Spanish midfielder Mariona Caldentey was named PFA Women’s Player of the Year after scoring 19 goals in her debut season and helping Arsenal win the Champions League, defeating her former club Barcelona in the final. Spain, her national team, reached the European Championship final but fell short against England.

The Emerging Player of the Year award in men’s football went to Aston Villa’s 23-year-old midfielder Morgan Rodgers, who scored 14 goals in 54 appearances last season.

Arsenal’s Canadian striker Olivia Smith was named Women’s Emerging Player of the Year. The 21-year-old forward made headlines with a world-record transfer from Liverpool to Arsenal and netted seven goals in 20 appearances during her first season.
