SB sub-inspector beaten to death in Savar

A sub-inspector (SI) of the Special Branch (SB) of Bangladesh Police, Altaf Hossain, 58, was beaten to death in Savar. His younger son, Ariful Islam, 26, was also seriously injured in the attack.

The incident took place at around 8:30pm on Saturday (5 September) in the Borodeshi area of Aminbazar Union in Savar.

The deceased, Altaf Hossain, lived in a rented house in the Borodeshi area of Aminbazar, Savar. He was, however, serving as a sub-inspector with the Special Branch of Police in the capital.

Savar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Alam confirmed the incident.

According to eyewitnesses, police said Altaf and his younger son Ariful were attacked by a group of 10 to 15 people in front of a vest factory in the Medina Housing area of Aminbazar Borodeshi under Savar Police Station. The attack reportedly followed an argument over parking a private car there.

They were taken to Suhrawardy Hospital at around 9:30pm. Doctors there declared Altaf Hossain dead on arrival.

Dhaka District Police Superintendent Shamima Parveen said the SI and his son were attacked while attempting to resolve a dispute between two groups over the parking of a private car.

She said police were trying to arrest those involved in the incident.
