Scarlett Johansson joins DC universe in ‘The Batman: Part II’
Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson, widely known for her role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is set to make her debut in the DC Universe with the highly anticipated film The Batman: Part II, director Matt Reeves has confirmed.
The announcement has sparked widespread excitement among fans, marking one of the most high-profile crossover moves in recent superhero cinema.
The sequel to the 2022 blockbuster The Batman will once again feature Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman. However, Johansson’s reported casting has become the biggest talking point surrounding the project.
Director Matt Reeves, known for keeping character details under wraps, teased Johansson’s involvement in a cryptic post on social media. On May 14, he shared a still from her 2013 film Under the Skin on X, captioning it: “Next stop, Gotham… welcome.” The post quickly ignited speculation about her role in the DC film.
While her character has not been officially confirmed, industry reports suggest she may portray Gilda Dent, the wife of Harvey Dent, a key figure in the Batman storyline who eventually becomes the villain Two-Face.
Rumours also indicate that Sebastian Stan could appear as Harvey Dent, while veteran actor Charles Dance is being considered for the role of Christopher Dent.
Several cast members from the first film are expected to return, including Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell reprising his role as the Penguin. However, Zoë Kravitz is reportedly not returning as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, disappointing many fans.
The screenplay for the film is being developed by Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin. Warner Bros. has confirmed that production is expected to begin later this year.
The Batman: Part II is scheduled for a worldwide release on October 1, 2027, with Johansson’s DC debut already generating strong anticipation across the global entertainment industry.
