School roof collapse in Rajasthan claims 7 young lives
Seven children have been killed and dozens others feared trapped as the roof of a school building collapsed in India's western state of Rajasthan on Friday (July 25), reports NDTV.
The incident took place at the Piplodi Government School around 8:30am (local time).
According to the media report, officials said around 60 children, including teachers and staff members, were inside when the roof of the one-story building collapsed.
32 students were rescued, with 17 currently receiving treatment for injuries.
Rescue operations are currently underway. Visuals from other news agencies showed locals gathered around the debris, helping rescuers clear the debris.
Earlier in the day, Education Minister Madan Dilawar said, "I will order a probe into the incident and to ascertain what led the building to collapse. I have also spoken to the collector and directed authorities to take stock of the situation and help in whatever way possible."
In a post on X, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma commented on the "heart-wrenching" incident. "Instructions have been given to the concerned authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured children," he said.
