Schoolgirl reportedly raped and murdered in Kishoreganj, 2 held

A Class IX student, Kohinur Akhter, 15, was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Mithamain, Kishoreganj, with her body thrown into a river after her hands and feet were tied. Police have detained two suspects in connection with the incident.

According to family and neighbours, Kohinur left home on Saturday afternoon, July 3, to attend a private tuition and did not return. Despite extensive searches, family members could not find her. On Sunday night, locals spotted a body in the river near Hamid Pallai, about three kilometres from her home. Her mother identified the body from her clothing. The body was swept away by the current before police could recover it.

Police detained two suspects, Hridoy and Imran, from the Moharpur Beribandh area of Mithamain. During interrogation, they reportedly confessed to taking the girl to a boat, gang-raping her and then killing her.

Teachers and students from various educational institutions in Mithamain brought out a procession and held a human chain on Sunday afternoon, demanding exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
