Senegal on the verge of history with 2-0 lead over Belgium
Senegal have put Belgium on the brink of elimination in their World Cup Round of 32 clash at the Seattle Stadium, taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the second half. The African side have dominated the match, leaving the favourites stunned.
After Habib Diarra's 25th-minute opener, Senegal doubled their lead in the 51st minute through Ismaila Sarr, who had earlier hit the post in the first half.
Belgium, who had only 36 per cent possession in the first half, improved to 50-50 after the break but still trail in attacking sharpness. Senegal have taken 11 shots (4 on target) to Belgium's 6 (2 on target). Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been forced into two saves.
Belgium coach Rudi Garcia made three substitutions in a desperate attempt to change the game, but Senegal have held firm.
Senegal, who scraped through the group stage as one of the best third-placed teams, have been transformed in the knockout round. A win would mark their first-ever World Cup knockout victory.
