Seven killed in Nepal avalanche including foreign climbers
Seven people, including foreign climbers, have been killed in an avalanche on Mount Yalung Ri in Nepal. Among the victims were five foreign mountaineers and two Nepali guides.
The news was reported by CNN on Tuesday  (November 4).
According to Armed Police Force spokesperson Shailendra Thapa, five others were injured at the base camp located at an altitude of 4,900 metres.
The nationality and identity of the foreign climbers have not yet been confirmed.
The report stated that the weather in Nepal has been deteriorating since last week, with snowstorms reported in several mountainous regions.
Following the avalanche, rescuers were trekking to the site on foot. A rescue helicopter attempted to reach the location but was forced to turn back due to poor weather conditions. Thapa said that efforts to resume the rescue operation would begin again early on Tuesday morning.
Mount Yalung Ri, standing at 5,600 metres (18,370 feet), is considered a mountain suitable for beginners with little or no prior high-altitude climbing experience. Nepal is home to eight of the world’s fourteen highest peaks, including Mount Everest.
