Seven-member German delegation to observe upcoming election

A seven-member German delegation will be in Bangladesh to observe the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Rüdiger Lotz has said.

He made the statement on Wednesday, December 10, during a special event organised at the Franco-German Embassy in Dhaka on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.

Terming the upcoming national election scheduled to be held in February as a “strong signal”, he said that encouraging responses have been seen from political parties, the Election Commission and the interim government.

He expressed hope that the upcoming election in Bangladesh would be free, fair and participatory.

Tomorrow, December 11, the Election Commission (EC) will announce the schedule for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum. Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin will announce the schedule in an address to the nation at 6pm on Thursday.

Senior EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the development on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier today, at 4pm, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin recorded his speech for Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar from his office at the Election Commission building in Agargaon.

After the recording, all commissioners held a meeting at the CEC’s room. Following the meeting, Senior EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed briefed reporters with the details.
