Shades to be installed in Mirpur to reduce spectators' suffering
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a major initiative to reduce the suffering of spectators coming to watch the game on the field. The ad-hoc committee led by Tamim Iqbal has decided to install special canopies in the east gallery of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
At a press conference held in Mirpur, Tamim Iqbal said that spectators suffer the most in the east gallery without canopies on Thursday. It becomes difficult to enjoy the game there in strong sun or rain, although the ticket price for this gallery is comparatively low and the attendance of spectators is the highest.
He said that canopies will be installed in an area of about 27,000 square feet, so that the entire gallery comes under shade. The process of this work has already started and the board hopes for its quick implementation.
It is worth noting that the other galleries of the stadium—such as Shahid Jewel and Shahid Mushtaq Stands, North and South Galleries and Grand Stand—are already covered, so spectators do not have to face much problem there.
In addition, large fans have been installed in the club house area on an experimental basis to provide relief from the heat.
The BCB is also planning to generate solar power on the roof of the stadium to reduce electricity costs. Aminul Haque has suggested this. According to the plan, a part of the electricity will be generated on its own by installing solar panels across the roof of the entire stadium.
Tamim Iqbal said that the matter is still in the initial stage. The final decision will be taken after examining the feasibility and considering the investment and benefits.
