After a career spanning over three decades, Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan has finally been honoured with his first National Film Award.

The award for Best Actor was presented to him by the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, in recognition of his performance in the blockbuster film Jawan.

Khan shares the Best Actor accolade with Vikrant Massey, who was recognised for his role in 12th Fail. Rani Mukerji was named Best Actress for her performance in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. For Khan, the award marks a significant milestone in a career that has seen global recognition but had long eluded this particular national honour.

During the ceremony, Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, addressed Khan as the “King of Hearts.” He highlighted Khan’s journey from performing in Delhi theatre productions to becoming a global icon, noting the universal appeal of his smile and memorable dialogues.

National Award winners receive a medal, certificate, and cash prize. For the Best Actor category, the prize is ₹2 lakh. Following the Directorate of Film Festivals’ guidelines, Khan and Massey will each receive ₹1 lakh, along with their individual medals and certificates.
