Shakib will not play for Bangladesh again: Sports Adviser

Shakib Al Hasan will no longer be allowed to play for Bangladesh, Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has said. He made the remarks in a television interview on Monday, September 29.

The announcement follows a heated Facebook exchange between the adviser and Shakib, triggered by Shakib’s birthday greeting post for former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

The adviser accused Shakib of retaining allegiance to the Awami League and confirmed that the ministry would formally instruct the Bangladesh Cricket Board not to include him in the national team.

He further said, “He cannot be given the opportunity to carry the flag of Bangladesh or wear the national jersey.”

Shakib, who last year sought to play his farewell Test in Bangladesh, was earlier prevented from doing so following protests by student groups and ministry advice.
