Shanto named men’s selector, Salma for women’s team

Former pacer Hasibul Hossain Shanto has been added to the national men’s team selection panel. After former opener Hannan Sarkar stepped down, the two-member committee of chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain and Abdur Razzak had been working alone. At an emergency meeting in Mirpur on Saturday afternoon, the decision was made to include Shanto.

The former Bangladesh star will now be officially involved in forming national squads. For several months, there had been speculation about adding a third member to the panel, which has now been confirmed.

Meanwhile, former captain Salma Khatun has been appointed as a selector for the Bangladesh women’s national team for the first time. Having long played in domestic cricket, she will retire from all forms of the game and formally assume her new role on 1 October.

Until now, Sajjad Ahmed Shipon had been the sole selector for the women’s team. With Salma’s appointment, the women’s selection panel now has two members.
