Najmul Hossain Shanto has once again been appointed captain of the Bangladesh Test team for a two-year term. The left-handed batter will lead the Tigers in the longest format until 2027.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the development in a press release on Saturday, November 1.

Earlier this year, Shanto stepped down from captaincy following the Test series against Sri Lanka. Since then, Bangladesh have not played any Tests. The team will host Ireland in a home Test next month, and Shanto will lead Bangladesh through the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle.

BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul said, “He has shown patience, commitment and a sound understanding of Test cricket. Under his leadership, we have seen improvement and confidence in the team. The board believes that maintaining leadership continuity will help us progress positively in the new Test Championship cycle.”

Shanto said, “I feel truly honoured to continue leading the Bangladesh Test team, and I am deeply grateful to the board for the trust and confidence they have shown in my captaincy.”

He added, “Leading my country in Test cricket is the proudest moment of my life. I will do everything in my power to fulfil this responsibility with utmost dedication.”

Shanto took over as Test captain in 2023, succeeding Mominul Haque. So far, he has led the team in 14 Tests.
