Shanto resigns as Bangladesh Test captain
Following a batting collapse, Bangladesh suffered an innings and 78-run defeat to Sri Lanka in the Colombo Test. After the match, Najmul Hossain Shanto announced his decision to step down as Bangladesh’s Test captain. He made the announcement during a press conference on Saturday (June 28).
Shanto said, “I am stepping down from the role of Test captain of the Bangladesh team. I don’t want to continue as captain in the Test format anymore.”
“This is not a personal decision. I took this step for the betterment of the team, and I believe it will be good for the team,” he added.
Earlier in 2024, Shanto was made captain in all three formats. At the beginning of the year, he gave up the T20 captaincy, and later Litton Das was appointed as the T20 captain. Before the Sri Lanka series, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was made ODI captain without informing Shanto.
