Shehbaz Sharif, Abbas Araghchi hold meeting in Islamabad
A meeting between Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was held in the capital, Islamabad, on Saturday, April 25.
The meeting took place at the Prime Minister's Office, with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir also in attendance, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.
The statement said the meeting primarily discussed the "current regional situation" . However, no detailed information was immediately available.
According to diplomatic sources, the Iranian side outlined its terms and proposals during the talks while expressing its continued commitment to diplomatic engagement aimed at ending the ongoing conflict . Earlier, the Iranian delegation also held a high-level meeting with Pakistani officials late Friday night, where it conveyed its position on key demands and responses to proposals transmitted by the United States through Pakistani mediators.
Pakistani officials have been acting as intermediaries, relaying messages between Washington and Tehran as part of efforts to revive a second round of peace talks . The first round of US-Iran talks, held in Islamabad on April 11 and 12, ended without a breakthrough.
Ahead of the meeting, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson reiterated that no direct talks between Iran and the US were planned during the visit, with Iran's observations to be conveyed to Pakistan instead.
The Iranian delegation arrived in Islamabad late Friday night with a nine-member team . Araghchi's visit is part of a three-country tour that will also take him to Muscat and Moscow.
