Shibir leader Zisan ‘not opening eyes’ hearing arrest news in rape case
Police have claimed that Islami Chhatra Shibir central leader Zisan Mia Pradhan has been presenting himself as ill since his arrest in a case filed on charges of rape and fetal destruction. He is currently undergoing treatment at Comilla Medical College Hospital under police guard.
Hospital authorities and police claim that various tests have not found any physical complications in Zisan. However, since learning about the arrest, he has not been opening his eyes and has been showing signs of illness.
On Sunday (June 14), the acting director of Cumilla Medical College Hospital, Dr. Mohammad Shahjahan, said that a four-member medical board has been formed to assess Zisan’s physical condition. The board, formed under the leadership of the department head of the medicine department, includes specialist doctors from the departments of anesthesia, neuromedicine and psychiatry.
He said that the medical board will review Zisan’s health condition and give its opinion around 11 am on Monday. If he recovers and pretends to be ill, he will be discharged from the hospital. And if he is sick, the necessary treatment will continue.
Police sources said that Zisan is the central assistant international affairs secretary of the main Islami Chhatra Shibir and the former president of the Cumilla district west unit. It is alleged that he developed a relationship with a widow from Daudkandi a few months ago through an acquaintance on social media.
The case statement says that the woman was raped several times with the promise of marriage and later pressured to abort the fetus when she became pregnant. Later, despite the promise of marriage, Zisan went into hiding before the scheduled time.
Police claim that the incident of his disappearance on June 11 was actually a planned hiding. He was rescued from the Laksam Railway Junction area of Cumilla around 9:30 pm the next day. He was later admitted to the Comilla Medical College Hospital.
District Detective Branch (DB) officer-in-charge Shamsul Alam Shah said that after being brought to the hospital, Zisan spoke to the police normally. But whenever he came to know that a case has been filed against him and he has been arrested, he has been presenting himself as sick. Currently, he is not even opening his eyes.
A total of four people, including Zisan, have been accused in the case filed in this incident. The other three accused, Sekandar Ali, Golam Rabbi and Sajeeb Hasan, have already been sent to jail through the court.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Daudkandi Model Police Station Md. A. Bari said that although Zisan has been arrested in the case, he has not been able to be produced in court yet due to his physical condition. After receiving the report of the medical board.
