Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam produced a career-defining spell in Mackay, taking seven wickets against Australia to become the first visiting bowler in 33 years to claim a seven-wicket haul in a Test on Australian soil.

Shoriful returned figures of 7-48 in the second and final Test, helping Bangladesh dismiss Australia for 210 on the second day. The performance marked the best Test bowling figures by a Bangladesh bowler overseas and the finest by a Bangladeshi against Australia in Tests.

It is also the best innings figures by a Bangladesh pace bowler in Test cricket.

The feat places Shoriful alongside West Indies great Curtly Ambrose, who was the last visiting bowler to take seven wickets in a Test in Australia. Ambrose claimed 7-25 against Australia at the WACA in Perth in 1993.

Ambrose's devastating spell reduced Australia to 1-7 at one stage. Although Shoriful conceded more runs than the legendary Caribbean pacer, his seven-wicket haul has put him in the same rare statistical bracket.

Shoriful began making history on the opening day in Mackay, when he claimed six wickets—his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket. He added another wicket on the second day to complete his seven-wicket haul.

The pacer also top-scored for Bangladesh with 14 in their first innings, although the visitors were bowled out for just 64.

Shoriful's remarkable spell gave Bangladesh an opportunity to fight their way back into the match, but another batting collapse ultimately left them facing an innings defeat.
