Show-cause notice issued to Taheri

A show-cause notice has been issued to Islamic Front-nominated parliamentary candidate for Habiganj-4 constituency and controversial Islamic speaker Md. Gias Uddin Taheri for allegedly campaigning three weeks before the scheduled election date.

Habiganj District Administrator and Returning Officer for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, Abu Hasnat Mohammad Arefin, confirmed the matter on Monday afternoon, January 19.

Earlier, the chairman of the constituency’s election inquiry and judicial committee, Md. Rabiul Islam, issued the notice to Taheri.

The notice states that a video published on a verified Facebook page titled The Space, which has 770,000 followers, shows Taheri engaging in election campaigning three weeks before the designated polling date.

It further states that the act violated Articles 91Kha(2) and 91Kha(3) of the Representation of the People Order (RPO), 1972, as well as Rules 3, 18, and 30 of the relevant regulations.

Taheri has been asked to appear before the inquiry committee chairman at Habiganj Circuit House at 11am on Tuesday, January 20, or submit a written explanation through a representative.

The district administrator said copies of the notice have been sent to the Election Commission secretary and seven other relevant offices.
