Shuvra Deb's life and musical journey captured in new book by Sabrina Rubin

Popular Bangladeshi musician Shuvra Deb has been brought to the pages of a book by Dr Sabrina Ruben. The internationally acclaimed writer, translator, lyricist and researcher has written an English-language biography titled 'A Golden Soul of Music'.

The biography, published in New York, USA, by Odyssey Foundation for Art and Culture, is available on Amazon and at various bookstores in New York. The book has been edited by internationally acclaimed poet Nurul Haque.

In the book, Dr Sabrina Ruben has portrayed Shuvra Deb's childhood, adolescence, the beginning of his musical journey, his success, and various unknown chapters of his life in a literary manner. The book was unveiled in New York by actress Rituprna Sengupta, recipient of the National Film Award of India.

Dr Sabrina Ruben has previously written biographies of many distinguished personalities from home and abroad. She is particularly acclaimed for her English poetry on mental health and photo poetry in Bangladesh. Her various books have already gained readership in Bangladesh, the USA, the UK, Russia, Albania, Palestine, India, Pakistan, Turkey and other countries around the world.

She has received various international honours both at home and abroad. Many artists, including Indian vocalists Haimanti Shukla, Usha Uthup, Deb Gautam, Bangladesh's Shuvra Deb, Shan Shaykh, and others, have sung songs written by Sabrina Ruben. She has also written lyrics for Malayalam films.

On the other hand, Shuvra Deb has established his own position in Bangladesh's music scene, having given countless popular songs over more than four decades. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to music, he was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2024. His duet with renowned Indian singer Alka Yagnik has been acclaimed on both sides of Bengal. He gained widespread attention for working with Bollywood star Aamir Khan in a commercial for the soft drink Pepsi. As one of the earliest Bangladeshi artists, his songs and music videos were aired on the world-famous music satellite TV channel MTV. Besides music, he has also acted in films and television dramas. 'A Golden Soul of Music' is not just a biography of a musician; it is an inspiring document of Shuvra Deb's artistry, love and creative life.
