Six killed in fire at perfume warehouse in Turkey
At least six people have been killed and one injured in a devastating fire at a perfume warehouse in northwestern Turkey. The incident occurred early Saturday November 8 in the Dilovası industrial zone of Kocaeli province, reports AFP.
According to the country’s state broadcaster TRT Haber, the fire broke out in the warehouse at dawn and quickly spread. Firefighters, rescue teams and municipal workers worked for several hours to bring the blaze under control.
Regional Governor İlhami Aktaş said, “Tragically, six of our citizens have lost their lives in this incident. One injured person has been rescued and admitted to hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.”
Earlier, local authorities had reported that two people were injured in the fire.
Footage aired on Turkey’s private television channel NTV showed that the two-storey building used as a warehouse was completely destroyed by the flames. However, the cause of the fire is still unknown. The governor said that a committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
Dilovası, located about 70 kilometres from Istanbul, is one of Turkey’s major industrial cities, home to numerous warehouses and factories.
