Six set to become BCB directors unopposed
Four councillors have already been elected as directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board ahead of the election scheduled for June 7. After scrutiny of nomination papers, directors from Category-1 (regional and district bodies) for Dhaka, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Rangpur divisions have been finalised. Directors have also been determined from Category-3 (special organisations and former cricketers).
According to the BCB constitution, one director each will be elected from Sylhet, Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions. Only one nomination was submitted for each of these three divisions. For Dhaka division, three nominations were submitted for two positions, but one candidate was rejected, resulting in both Dhaka division directors being determined unopposed.
Additionally, from the special organisations and former cricketers category, only one nomination was submitted, which has been approved.
Those elected unopposed are: Abdul Kayum Chowdhury (Sylhet Divisional Sports Association), Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto (Bogura District Sports Association), Mirza Faisal Amin (Thakurgaon District Sports Association), and from Dhaka division, Sayeed Bin Zaman and S M Abdullah Al Fuad.
The nomination of Jasim Uddin Khan Khosru from Gopalganj Sports Association was rejected during scrutiny. Of the 33 nominations submitted, all but one have been declared valid.
Category-1 (Regional and District Bodies):
Chattogram division: Three valid nominations (Min Hajul Abedin Nannu, Moyn Uddin Chowdhury, Shariful Islam). Two directors will be elected from this division.
Khulna division: Three candidates (Shafiqul Alam, Shantanu Islam, Abdus Salam). Two directors will be elected.
Barishal division: Two candidates (Mizanur Rahman, Muntasir Alam Chowdhury). One director will be elected.
Category-3: Siraj Uddin Mohammad Alamgir has been elected unopposed.
Category-2 (Club Category): Eighteen councillors will contest for 12 positions, including Tamim Iqbal, Fahim Sinha, Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed, Ishraful Khosru, Rafiqul Islam Babu, Mirza Yasir Abbas and Mohammad Amjad Hossain.
Objections to the scrutinised nomination list will be heard on May 24. Candidates can withdraw their nominations on May 25 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, with the final list of candidates to be published at 2:00 pm the same day.
