Six-year-old rescued alive from rubble three days after Nepal floods

A six-year-old girl has been rescued alive after spending three days trapped beneath mud and debris following devastating floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa district.

Members of the Armed Police Force (APF) rescued the child, identified as Manisha Magar, from Timure village on Friday evening (August 28) while searching for people missing after the disaster.

The rescue team heard faint cries coming from beneath the debris and immediately began digging. They eventually pulled the child out alive and provided her with first aid at an APF border post in Timure.

Her condition later deteriorated, prompting authorities to arrange her transfer to Kathmandu. Poor weather and low visibility prevented a helicopter flight on Friday night, but she was flown to Kathmandu on Saturday after conditions improved and admitted to a hospital.

She is now receiving treatment under specialist doctors.

The floods followed heavy rainfall that caused the Bhote Koshi River to overflow, inundating Timure and other parts of Rasuwa. The disaster caused widespread destruction and left many people missing.

Footage of the dramatic rescue has since spread on social media, drawing widespread praise for the rescuers. Police are also working to confirm Manisha’s full identity and locate her family.
