Snigdha Chowdhury accuses Ashiyan Group chairman of torture after luring her with ad contract

Model and actress Snigdha Chowdhury (Israt Jahan) has filed a written complaint against Ashiyan Group Chairman Nazrul Islam Bhuiya, alleging that he attempted to murder and physically tortured her after luring her with the promise of an advertisement contract. She filed the complaint at Dhaka's Khilkhet Police Station late on Sunday night. Ashiyan Group has completely denied all allegations.

In her complaint, Snigdha Chowdhury stated that on the afternoon of July 24, a man named Imon offered her a brand ambassadorship with Ashiyan Group, mentioning a contract worth Tk 16 lakh. That night around 8pm, she went with her mother to meet Nazrul Islam Bhuiya at an office of Ashiyan Medical College in the 300 Feet area of Khilkhet.

She alleged that after her mother returned home, she was mistaken for another woman, beaten, and accused of embezzling Tk 1.5 crore. Her attempts to explain that she had been misidentified were ignored. Imon allegedly gestured to her to agree with the accused's accusations.

According to the complaint, Nazrul Islam Bhuiya threatened to shoot her with a shotgun, tied her hands and feet, choked her, and beat her with a wooden stick. He also reportedly pulled her hair and threw her to the floor. She further alleged that she was forced to drink coffee, and when she refused, hot coffee was thrown in her face. Bhuiya also reportedly threatened to ruin her face with scissors.

The complaint also stated that after repeated beatings, she was forced to consume an intoxicating substance. She managed to escape around 11:30pm when the accused left the room. She received medical treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital and subsequently filed the complaint.

Ashiyan Group's General Manager (Media and Communications), Syed Shafiqul Islam, denied the allegations in a written statement, calling them "completely fabricated, baseless and motivated." He claimed the matter is currently sub judice and that the company is following legal procedures, expressing confidence that an impartial investigation will reveal the truth.

Snigdha Chowdhury spoke to journalists at her Banani residence on Monday afternoon, demanding justice.
