Sobhana's historic century on Australian soil, record partnership

The start was like a nightmare. Bangladesh were struggling after losing three wickets for just 8 runs. From there, Sobhana Mostary and Nigar Sultana Jyoti lifted the team. With a superb 195-run partnership for the fourth wicket, Bangladesh women's team recovered to post 220 runs for six wickets in the second ODI against Australia. This is Bangladesh's highest team total against Australia.

Batting first after losing the toss in Brisbane, Bangladesh suffered an early collapse. After losing the first wicket with 2 runs on the board, two more batters returned to the pavilion within 8 runs. Farzana Haque and Shamim Akter — neither could open their account. In such a difficult situation, captain Jyoti and Sobhana took charge of the team.

Although they batted cautiously at first, the two gradually increased the scoring rate after settling in. Sobhana was aggressive, while Jyoti maintained the balance of the innings at the other end. Their 195-run partnership is the highest for any wicket for Bangladesh against Australia in women's ODIs. It is also the highest run partnership for any wicket in Bangladesh's women's ODI history.

Sobhana completed her century off 123 balls with superb batting. With this, she achieved the feat of becoming the first Bangladeshi woman cricketer to score a century against the hosts on Australian soil in an ODI. She was eventually out for 118 runs off 134 balls. This is the highest individual innings by a Bangladeshi woman cricketer in any format. Her innings included 18 fours, but no sixes. She also received congratulations from Australian cricketers as she left the field.

At the other end, captain Jyoti played a responsible innings. She remained unbeaten on 74 runs off 114 balls. Seven fours came from her bat. After Sobhana departed, Bangladesh lost a few wickets quickly towards the end. Nevertheless, the team posted a fighting total of 220 runs for six wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Australia's target for victory is 221 runs.
