Soham Chakraborty accused of fraud, death threats over film investment

Tollywood actor Soham Chakraborty has suffered a fresh legal trouble after a businessman filed a complaint accusing him of financial fraud and criminal intimidation over an alleged investment dispute linked to a Bengali film.

Businessman Sheikh Shahid Imam lodged a written complaint with Charu Market Police Station in Kolkata, alleging that Soham misappropriated investment funds and later threatened him when he demanded repayment.

According to the complaint, in 2021 the actor received Tk 68 lakh from the businessman as an investment for a film initially titled 'Manikjor', which was later released as 'Paka Dekha'. Although the film reportedly performed well at the box office, the complainant alleged that neither the invested amount nor the promised share of the profits was returned.

The complaint further states that when Shahid Imam sought repayment, Arghya Chattopadhyay, an associate of the actor, allegedly issued death threats. Imam also claimed that when he directly contacted Soham, the actor refused to return the money.

He further alleged that Soham, who was serving as an MLA at the time, attempted to use his political influence in the matter.

The businessman also claimed that despite the film's satellite rights being sold, he did not receive any share of the revenue generated from the deal.

This is not the first time Soham Chakraborty has faced allegations of financial misconduct. In June this year, businessman Kaushik Karmakar accused the actor of failing to return Tk 1.05 crore allegedly invested in a film under the banner Soham Entertainment. Karmakar claimed the project was never produced and alleged he was threatened when he sought repayment.

Soham Chakraborty has not yet issued any official statement regarding the latest allegations.
