Sonakshi Sinha opens up on her conscious career reinvention
Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha has opened up about a significant shift in her approach to her career, saying she has reached a point where she chooses roles purely for personal fulfilment rather than commercial compulsion or the need to please others.
In a candid interview with an Indian publication, the actress said the change has been deliberate and deeply considered. "I am now at a place where I work only for myself. I do what makes me happy. My life is full beyond work. Even if the roles I want don't come, I am perfectly content in my own little world," she said.
Sonakshi acknowledged that the mindset shift did not happen overnight. Early in her career, she took on projects that did not always align with her own instincts — a reality she accepts without bitterness. "This is a hundred percent a conscious decision. With every new project I feel more satisfied. I have played many kinds of roles and I regret none of them. But now I only want to do work that gives me genuine joy," she said.
The actress has backed those words with a string of critically appreciated performances in recent years — as a police officer in the web series Dahaad, a tawaif in Heeramandi, and most recently as a lawyer in director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's upcoming film System, alongside Jyothika and Ashutosh Gowariker.
On System, she said the team had produced something they could be proud of, describing the experience of working with Tiwari, Jyothika, and Gowariker as exceptional. When Tiwari publicly compared her to Meryl Streep and Kate Winslet during the film's promotions, Sonakshi said she called him up in mock protest. "I told him you've put so much pressure on me! But being compared to two such extraordinary actresses does feel wonderful," she said.
Beyond her professional evolution, Sonakshi also spoke of a shift in personal style — moving away from her longtime preference for black ensembles toward lighter, breathable cotton clothing in whites and blues suited to the summer heat.
Film analysts note that Sonakshi's consistent success on OTT platforms and in female-led narratives marks a distinct second chapter in her career — one defined less by box office calculus and more by artistic intent.
