Spain earns $50 million for World Cup win

Spain has been crowned champions of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, defeating Lionel Messi's Argentina 1-0 in the final on Sunday (July 19) to lift the trophy for the second time in the nation's history.

Nearly two months before the tournament began, FIFA announced a 15 percent increase in the World Cup prize fund to ensure that participating teams would not suffer financial losses. The total prize pool for the expanded 48-team tournament was set at $871 million (approximately BDT 107.24 billion).

As World Cup winners, Spain will receive $50 million (around BDT 6.15 billion) in prize money. Runners-up Argentina will take home $33 million, equivalent to approximately BDT 4.06 billion.

England, who secured third place by defeating France in the playoff, will receive $29 million (around BDT 3.57 billion), while fourth-placed France will earn $27 million (approximately BDT 3.32 billion).

Each of the four quarter-finalists will receive $19 million (about BDT 2.33 billion). The eight teams eliminated in the Round of 16 will each collect $15 million (around BDT 1.84 billion).

Meanwhile, the 16 teams knocked out in the Round of 32 will receive $11 million (approximately BDT 1.35 billion) each.

Even teams eliminated in the group stage will receive substantial financial compensation. Every nation that failed to progress beyond the opening round will earn $9 million (around BDT 1.10 billion).

In addition to performance-based prize money, FIFA also provided $15 million in advance to each participating nation before the tournament to help cover preparation costs, team accommodation, and other logistical expenses.
