Miscreants have shot and hacked to death Masum Billah, 40, a leader of Sramik Dal, in Khulna.

The incident occurred around 9:00 pm on Wednesday, March 4, at Dakbangla More, the heart of the city. Khulna Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Tajul Islam confirmed the killing.

The deceased, Masum Billah, son of late Minhaz Uddin Munshi from Bagmara village in Rupsha upazila, was a former president of Rupsha Motor Labour Union and former convener of the upazila Sramik Dal.

Police have arrested one individual, Ashok Ghosh, in connection with the killing, along with a foreign pistol.

Police said Masum Billah was present at Dakbangla More around 9:00 pm when five miscreants opened fire on him. He collapsed on the ground after being shot. The assailants also struck his right leg with sharp weapons before fleeing. However, local people and police managed to detain Ashok Ghosh along with a foreign pistol.

Masum Billah was rescued in critical condition and taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. Additional police have been deployed and checkposts set up at Dakbangla More, the heart of the city.
