Sri Lankan cricketer moves to court for IPL NOC
Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara has approached court after failing to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Sri Lanka Cricket to participate in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
Thushara filed a writ petition at the Colombo District Court on Thursday (April 2), seeking a directive for the cricket board to issue the required NOC.
The court set April 9 for the first hearing of the case.
In the petition, Thushara named Sri Lanka Cricket president Shammi Silva, secretary Bandula De Silva, treasurer Sujewa Godaliyadda, and CEO Ashley de Silva as respondents.
Sri Lanka Cricket has claimed that Thushara, retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore for ₹1.6 crore ahead of the IPL, failed to meet the prescribed fitness standards, prompting the board’s refusal to grant the NOC.
Thushara, however, maintains that his current fitness is on par with his career standards and warned that denial of the NOC could affect his participation in the IPL and other overseas leagues in the future.
