Sri Lanka’s incredible draw against India

Sri Lanka has made an incredible draw against India in the Colombo Test. Sri Lanka had fallen behind by 213 runs in the first innings of the second Test of the series at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC). India then enforced the follow-on on them. At one stage in the second innings the Lankans were 229 runs for 6 wickets. From there they saved the match with a magnificent fight.

At the start of the fifth day Sri Lanka had lost 6 wickets for 229 runs. After that Sonal Dinusha and Keshara Nuwantha built a 112-run partnership for the seventh wicket in 246 balls and took the team out of danger. After Nuwantha was out for 46, they quickly lost two more wickets but Dinusha held one end.

Finally Sri Lanka scored 429 runs for 9 wickets in 154 overs and ended the match without declaring the innings. Dinusha remained unbeaten on 133 runs with 8 fours and 2 sixes in 264 balls. His bat had also contributed 103 runs in the first innings. He has also become the player of the match by scoring centuries in both innings.

Earlier India had declared their first innings at 503 runs for 9 wickets. Devdutt Padikkal scored 117 and Dhruv Jurel remained unbeaten on 115. In reply Sri Lanka were all out for 290 and India got a lead of 213 runs. After enforcing the follow-on India captain Shubman Gill had tried to win the match quickly. However that plan did not succeed.

As the match was drawn India has won the two-match series by 1-0 margin. However a big change has come in the points table of the World Test Championship. India is in fifth position with a success rate of 51.52 percent. On the other hand Bangladesh is in fourth position with a success rate of 53.33 percent.

Bangladesh has 40 points from 6 matches with 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. Sri Lanka is in sixth position with a success rate of 33.33 percent.
