Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said the Strait of Hormuz will never return to its pre-war status, and that the strategic waterway will be managed under Tehran's supervision in accordance with international law.

Speaking in a video posted on his Telegram account after returning from talks with the United States in Switzerland, Ghalibaf said positive progress had been made on several issues, including the Strait of Hormuz, the Lebanon situation, oil exemptions and the release of frozen funds.

Earlier on Monday, mediators said Iran and the US had agreed to maintain normal shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and establish a communication mechanism to end the war in Lebanon. Ghalibaf said both sides had agreed to establish a coordination process for the strait, which would include a telephone hotline and a control centre that ships could contact directly in case of any ambiguity or problem.

The Strait of Hormuz carries approximately one-fifth of the world's refined oil and fuel. Since the beginning of the Iran-US-Israel war in early 2026, Tehran has repeatedly threatened to block the strategic waterway.
