US President Donald Trump has said the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened “very soon,” with or without Iran’s consent.

Speaking to reporters ahead of potential talks in Islamabad, Trump said the United States would take steps to ensure free navigation in the Gulf, with support from other countries.

He rejected any attempt by Iran to impose fees on vessels using the route and stressed that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains the primary condition for any agreement.

Despite a recently announced two-week ceasefire framework, traffic through the Strait remains severely disrupted. The route typically carries around one-fifth of global oil and gas supplies, with shipping volumes dropping sharply and hundreds of vessels still stranded in the Persian Gulf.

High-level talks between the United States and Iran are expected in Islamabad, led by US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
