Strong earthquake hits Afghanistan, tremors felt in India

A powerful earthquake of 6.2 magnitude struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan on Saturday evening, with tremors felt across the Indian capital New Delhi and large parts of northern India. No immediate casualties or damage were reported.

India's National Center for Seismology (NCS) said the earthquake struck at 7:04 pm Indian time. The epicentre was located in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region at a depth of 215 kilometres.

No immediate casualties or damage were reported in Afghanistan.

According to the Red Cross, Afghanistan is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries, with the Hindu Kush region being one of the most active seismic zones. The country is highly vulnerable due to its location at the junction of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.

The earthquake comes amid increased seismic activity in the region. On Friday, at least five moderate earthquakes struck Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province.
