Strong earthquake jolts Indonesia
A strong earthquake struck Indonesia's northern island of Sumatra in the early hours of Sunday, April 19. Anadolu Agency reported the information.
The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said the earthquake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was located approximately 10 kilometres below the earth's surface. The tremor was felt at 3:06 am local time.
The region is highly vulnerable due to active tectonic plate movements, the report said. The epicentre was determined to be at 1.29 degrees north latitude and 97.21 degrees east longitude.
However, no immediate reports of casualties or major infrastructural damage were received.
