Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar has announced that all students in Bangladesh will receive new textbooks at the beginning of next year.

Speaking to reporters at the Bhola Deputy Commissioner’s office on Saturday (November 29), he said, “Most books have already reached the district level, so distribution to students in the first week of January is certain.”

He added that schools designated as polling centers are being repaired and prepared to ensure smooth operations.

Highlighting the government’s plan to improve primary education, the adviser emphasised ensuring language literacy, enabling students to read, understand, and write fluently in their mother tongue, along with mastering basic arithmetic operations.

He also stressed introducing students to English as an international language.

Regarding teacher promotions and pay grades, Dr. Poddar said headteachers have been upgraded to 10th grade, and efforts are underway to promote assistant teachers to the 11th grade.

Earlier at 10:30am, the adviser addressed a seminar at the Bhola Deputy Commissioner’s office as the chief guest. The seminar, titled "Strategy for the Speedy Completion of Government Primary Schools’ Infrastructure Development under PEDP-4," was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shamim Rahman.
