Suicide bombing at Pakistan police station kills 14, injures 22 in Swat

At least 14 people were killed and 22 others injured in a suicide bombing outside a police station in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday (August 2), officials said, in one of the deadliest attacks in the region in recent months.

The blast conducted at the main entrance of a police station in Kabal town, located in the scenic Swat Valley, where security personnel had reportedly stopped a suspicious individual for questioning.

According to local authorities, the suspect detonated explosives strapped to his body as officers attempted to search him, triggering a powerful explosion that caused heavy casualties among police personnel and civilians in the vicinity.

The injured were rushed to hospitals in Saidu Sharif, where doctors said several victims remain in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll could increase.

Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a large-scale search operation to identify any accomplices who may have been involved in planning or facilitating the bombing.

Police officer Umar Khan said investigators had collected forensic evidence from the scene and that a full investigation was underway to determine the network behind the attack.

Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the bombing, expressing condolences to the families of those killed and directing authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured.

The attack underscores the deteriorating security situation in northwestern Pakistan, where militant violence has intensified in recent months. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighboring Balochistan have witnessed a surge in attacks targeting security forces, adding to concerns over the country's counterterrorism challenges.
