The 12th national parliamentary election concluded with the abstention of BNP and its allies, along with the thin presence of voters. However, in this election, candidates nominated by Awami League and other parties, as well as several heavyweight independent candidates, failed to secure victory in their respective parliamentary seats. The notable figures include Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali nominated by Awami League, Jatiya Party (JP-Manju) Chairman Anwar Hossain Manju, Workers Party General Secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha, Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman GM Quader's wife Sherifa Quader, Krishak Sramik Janata League President Quader Siddiqui and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSAD) President Hasanul Haque Inu.

বিএনপি ও সমমনা বিরোধী দলগুলো নির্বাচন বর্জন এবং স্বল্প ভোটার উপস্থিতির মধ্য দিয়ে শেষ হয়েছে দ্বাদশ সংসদ নির্বাচন। তবে এ নির্বাচনে আওয়ামী লীগ ও অন্য দলের মনোনীত এবং স্বতন্ত্র বেশ কয়েকজন হেভিওয়েট প্রার্থী তাদের সংসদীয় আসনে জয়ী হতে পারেননি। তাদের মধ্যে অন্যতম হলেন আওয়ামী লীগের মনোনয়ন পাওয়া বেসামরিক বিমান ও পর্যটনমন্ত্রী মো. মাহবুব আলী, জাতীয় পার্টির (জেপি-মঞ্জু) চেয়ারম্যান আনোয়ার হোসেন মঞ্জু, ওয়ার্কার্স পার্টির সাধারণ সম্পাদক ফজলে হোসেন বাদশা, জাতীয় পার্টির (জাপা) চেয়ারম্যান জি এম কাদেরের স্ত্রী শেরীফা কাদের, কৃষক শ্রমিক জনতা লীগের সভাপতি কাদের সিদ্দিকী এবং জাতীয় সমাজতান্ত্রিক দলের (জাসদ) সভাপতি হাসানুল হক ইনু।
