Suryavanshi's 18-ball fifty powers India 1-0 lead in Zimbabwe T20 series

Teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced a breathtaking display of power-hitting, smashing his maiden international T20 half-century off just 18 balls, as India cruised to a seven-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the opening match of the three-match T20I series.

Chasing a modest target of 126, the 15-year-old opener launched a blistering assault from the outset, dismantling Zimbabwe's bowling attack with fearless stroke play. Suryavanshi struck 50 off 18 deliveries before being dismissed by Richard Ngarava, leaving India well in control at 68/2.

Captain Shreyas Iyer then anchored the chase with an unbeaten knock, guiding India to 126/3 and sealing victory comfortably. The win also marked Iyer's first T20I victory as India's captain.

Earlier, disciplined bowling from the Indian attack restricted Zimbabwe to 125/7 in 20 overs. Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav claimed two wickets each, ensuring the hosts never gained momentum.

Suryavanshi, who became India's youngest-ever international cricketer earlier this month, had endured a difficult start to his international career. He managed scores of 14, 13 and 15 against England before being dropped for the final match, as India suffered a 4-0 series defeat.

However, the teenage opener bounced back in emphatic fashion against Zimbabwe, repaying the selectors' faith with a sensational innings at Harare—the same venue where he hammered 175 off 80 balls against England in the Under-19 World Cup final earlier this year.

After taking four deliveries to settle in, Suryavanshi unleashed an array of towering sixes over long-off, fine leg and long-on, putting Zimbabwe's bowlers under relentless pressure and setting up India's dominant victory.

The second match of the three-match series will be played on Saturday.
