Syed Mohammad Kamal elected new president of AmCham, Ala Uddin Ahmad vice-president
Syed Mohammad Kamal, Vice President of Mastercard Bangladesh, has been elected as the new president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) for the 2026-2028 term. Ala Uddin Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of MetLife Bangladesh, has been elected vice-president of the new committee .
The installation ceremony of the new executive committee was held at a hotel in the capital on Sunday, June 14, where the newly elected leaders formally took charge, according to a press release .
Reza Ur Rahman Mahmud, Managing Director of Philip Morris International Bangladesh, has been elected treasurer of the new committee .
The newly elected president, Syed Mohammad Kamal, brings over 35 years of leadership experience across financial services, FMCG, remittances and digital payments. He previously held senior positions at Western Union, Berger Paints Bangladesh and ACI Limited. He has also served as vice-president of AmCham Bangladesh and director of the Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) .
The new executive committee also includes Al-Mamun M Rashel, Managing Director of NATco Bangladesh Ltd; Habib Bhuiyan, Country Manager of Excelerate Energy Bangladesh; Sazzad Hossain, General Manager of Avery Dennison Bangladesh and Sri Lanka; and Ataur Rahim Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of ShopUp Bangladesh .
Outgoing president Syed Ershad Ahmed highlighted the institutional progress made during his tenure at the event. US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen expressed confidence in the new leadership and reiterated support for AmCham's role in advancing bilateral economic engagement .
The newly installed executive committee pledged to strengthen AmCham's role in advancing trade, investment and policy advocacy, including deepening US-Bangladesh economic ties and positioning Bangladesh as a preferred investment destination .
