T20 World Cup heats up: Super Eight line-up locked in
The 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is building momentum as eight teams have sealed their places in the second round — the Super Eight stage — following the completion of a thrilling group phase.
After intense battles across four groups, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England, Zimbabwe, West Indies, New Zealand, and South Africa have advanced to the Super Eight.
India topped Group A unbeaten with four wins, including a comprehensive victory over the Netherlands, maintaining their status as title favourites.
Pakistan edged into the Super Eights as the final qualifier, securing three wins and suffering a single defeat, capped by a dominant 102-run triumph over Namibia.
Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe progressed from Group B. Zimbabwe’s Super Eight berth was sealed after a rain-affected win against Ireland, marking one of the tournament’s biggest surprises, while Sri Lanka remains in fine form with one match remaining.
West Indies and England advanced from Group C. The West Indies impressed with decisive wins over Nepal and England, with one match remaining, while England completed their group fixtures with three wins and one defeat.
South Africa and New Zealand rounded out the Super Eight from Group D, both showing consistent performances throughout the group stage.
The Super Eight stage will see teams split into two groups, playing round-robin matches. The top two from each group will advance to the knockout semi-finals. Points and net run rates from the initial stage do not carry over, making every Super Eight match high-stakes.
The group stage delivered a mix of expected outcomes and upsets. While India remained unbeaten, Pakistan’s late surge and Zimbabwe’s remarkable run — including a win over cricket powerhouse Australia — provided early drama and excitement.
As the Super Eight phase approaches, fans can anticipate thrilling encounters, big hits, and high-octane action as the race to the semifinals intensifies.
