The ongoing drama surrounding the T20 World Cup has taken a new turn. Bangladesh were dropped from the tournament last Saturday after refusing to travel to India over security concerns. Scotland were brought in as Bangladesh’s replacement for this year’s World Cup.

However, a slim hope has now emerged that the International Cricket Council may reinstate Bangladesh, depending on Pakistan’s decision.

The Pakistan Cricket Board is considering boycotting the World Cup in solidarity with Bangladesh. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said after a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that a final decision would be announced either on Friday or Monday. If Pakistan withdraws, Bangladesh are expected to be reinstated.

Pakistan are scheduled to play all their Group A matches in Sri Lanka. If they pull out, Bangladesh would take their place in the same group and, as per their demand, play all matches in Sri Lanka.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Bangladesh will be given first priority if Pakistan decide to boycott the tournament.

Quoting an official, the report said that if Pakistan withdraws, Bangladesh will replace them in Group A, and all their matches will be held in Sri Lanka as requested by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, which would make it easier to manage logistical challenges.
