Talha Jubair appointed Bangladesh’s interim pace bowling coach
Former national cricketer Talha Jubair has been appointed as Bangladesh’s interim pace bowling coach.
He has been appointed to fill the void left by Australian coach Shaun Tait amid growing uncertainty over his future with the Bangladesh national team.
According to sources, Talha will serve in the role until the BCB finalises a permanent replacement for Tait.
Speculation had been mounting in recent days that Tait was unlikely to continue in his role, raising doubts over his availability for Bangladesh’s upcoming home series against Australia.
The BCB has now entrusted Talha with the pace bowling department for the Australia series, with the former fast bowler also expected to remain in charge during the subsequent series against Zimbabwe.
Tait, who joined Bangladesh as pace bowling coach in May 2025 under a contract running until the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, is reportedly keen on pursuing a coaching opportunity with India’s Bengal team and has already attended an interview for the position. The former Australian speedster has also informed the BCB that he wishes to step away from his current role, citing family reasons.
Bangladesh are set for a busy home schedule this month, with Australia arriving for a white-ball tour from June 9 to 21. The three-match ODI series will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on June 9, 11 and 14.
The teams will then travel to Chattogram for a three-match T20I series, scheduled for June 17, 19 and 21 at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium.
Talha’s appointment comes at a crucial time as Bangladesh prepare to take on one of the world’s strongest limited-overs sides.
