US President Donald Trump on Friday described recent indirect talks with Iran as “very good,” following a meeting between US and Iranian representatives in Muscat, Oman.

The developments come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent escalation in the region while balancing economic pressure and potential compromise.

Despite recent US military deployments in the Middle East, the discussions aimed to ease regional tensions.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One after the talks, Trump said, “We had very good discussions with Iran. It looks like they want to make a deal. We’ll meet again next week.”

However, Trump simultaneously issued an executive order imposing punitive measures on Tehran. The order targets imports from countries that continue trade with Iran, applying secondary US tariffs.

Reuters reported that the Muscat talks primarily focused on Iran’s nuclear program, with no discussion of Tehran’s ballistic missile activities. Iran reportedly told US negotiators that it would not completely halt uranium enrichment on its soil but indicated a willingness to consider concessions on specific issues.
