Former Bangladesh national cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal has officially expressed his interest in entering cricket administration, confirming his intention to contest in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections.

In a recent interview, Tamim stated that he is actively preparing to take part in the election process. "There is a very good possibility I will run. I am voting this time. I’ve invested in cricket and am affiliated with two clubs. I will be a councilor," he said.

Tamim retired from international cricket in 2023 and announced in January this year that he would no longer represent the national team.

Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished and influential cricketers in Bangladesh’s history, his entry into cricket administration marks a significant development in the upcoming BCB elections.

To contest for the presidency of the board in the future, Tamim must first be elected as a director—a requirement he is now aiming to fulfill.

Meanwhile, speculation continues around the structure of the upcoming elections. Sources suggest the National Sports Council (NSC) may consider forming an ad-hoc committee post-election, with current president Aminul Islam Bulbul potentially serving in an interim role and also being considered for a future run at the presidency.

Despite the ongoing discussions, BCB officials have maintained that elections will proceed as scheduled.

A crucial board meeting is set to take place in Sylhet on Monday, where the final election roadmap is expected to be announced.
