Tamim Iqbal elected chairman of ICC Franchise Leagues Committee

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Tamim Iqbal has been elected as the chairman of the newly formed ICC Franchise Leagues Committee. The decision was approved at the end of the ICC's annual conference held in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Wednesday, July 15.

The new committee will work on policies, coordination and future planning of franchise leagues in global cricket. Members of Tamim's committee include Dr Rudie van Vuuren from Namibia Cricket, Devajit Saikia from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Chief Executive Richard Gould, and Todd Greenberg from Cricket Australia.

At the same meeting, the ICC also formed another sub-committee, the ICC Governance Review Committee, with Devajit Saikia of BCCI as its chairman. Other members of the committee are Dr Mohammad Moosajee from Cricket South Africa and ICC Independent Director Dr Rose Rivaz.

Several other important decisions were also made at the annual conference. Mauritius was recognised as the ICC's 111th member. The ICC also approved a loan of US$12.82 million to Cricket West Indies for the development of Caribbean cricket.

Additionally, the conditions for reinstatement of Canada's suspension were approved. Sri Lanka Cricket's constitutional reform progress was reviewed, and the ICC urged them to hold elections quickly. Sri Lanka Cricket will not be allowed representation at ICC Board meetings for now.

Tamim Iqbal was also formally recognised as Bangladesh's Full Member Director at the meeting. Meanwhile, the ICC Annual General Meeting also approved the decision to put France Cricket on notice over allegations of violating membership conditions.
