Tamim named ACC Game Development Committee chairman

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal has been appointed chairman of the Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) Game Development Committee, marking his first participation in the continental body's Annual General Meeting.

The appointment was made at the ACC AGM in Bangkok, Thailand, where representatives from member countries discussed the council's administration and future plans.

The Game Development Committee plays a key role in expanding cricket across Asia, creating opportunities for emerging cricketing nations and supporting the sport's long-term development.

Tamim's appointment therefore gives Bangladesh a prominent role in shaping the ACC's development agenda.

The AGM also elected United Arab Emirates Cricket Board vice-president Khalid Al Zarooni as the ACC's new vice-president by unanimous decision.

New members were also elected to the ACC Executive Board for the 2026–2028 term.

Qatar Cricket Association president Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Saud Al Thani and Singapore Cricket Association president Mahmood Gaznavi were elected as representatives of full members that do not hold Test status.

From the associate members, Maldives' Mohamed Faisal and Bahrain's Mohamed Mansoor were elected and will serve on a rotational basis.

ACC president Mohsin Naqvi said the decisions taken at the AGM reflected the maturity of the council's administration and the collective commitment to building an institution that would continue serving Asian cricket beyond the tenure of its current office-bearers.

"Cricket in Asia has always been more than a sport. It is a common language that connects countries, cultures and generations," Naqvi said.
