Tanjin Tisha faces fraud and defamation case over saree promotion
Popular TV actress Tanjin Tisha is embroiled in a legal controversy following a promotional dispute with online fashion page Eponia.
The issue arose over a BDT 28,800 saree, with the page owner, entrepreneur Jhinuk, alleging that Tisha used the saree without paying and later cut off communication.
Tisha claimed on her Facebook page that the saree was given to her as a gift. Following this, Eponia executive Aminul Islam, through Supreme Court lawyer Solimullah Shikder, sent Tisha a legal notice on October 22, demanding BDT 1 lakh in compensation, a public apology, and cessation of defamatory posts.
However, she did not respond within the stipulated time.
On Wednesday (November 5), a case under Sections 420/406 for fraud and breach of trust was filed at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Dhaka (Court 18, CR No. 962/2025).
The court accepted the case, directed the DB (Detective Branch) to investigate, and considered an arrest warrant upon the plaintiff’s request.
Lawyer Solimullah Shikder said, “It is unacceptable for a celebrity like Tanjin Tisha to commit such fraud against a female entrepreneur. She also posted defamatory content on social media, leaving legal action necessary.”
Jhinuk added, “Every profession has ethics, which must be respected. Artists work for the people; betrayal of trust is regrettable. Since the matter is now in court, we trust the law will ensure justice.”
