BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will officially launch the 13th parliamentary election campaign from Sylhet, known as a holy land.

Tarique Rahman will arrive in Sylhet by plane on January 22. He may hold public meetings at several places on his way back to Dhaka by road.

Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury confirmed the information on Wednesday (January 7).

He said that the BNP Acting Chairman will start the party's election campaign by visiting the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shahparan (RA) in Sylhet.

According to the schedule, election symbols will be allocated among the upcoming parliamentary candidates on January 21. After that, the official campaign will begin.

The recently demised former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia used to start every election campaign by visiting the shrines in Sylhet.

Khaleda Zia last visited the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shahparan (RA) just before going to prison in 2018.

Almost all the leaders of the top political parties start their election or important party programmes by visiting the shrines in Sylhet.

Continuing this trend, Tarique Rahman will address a public meeting at the city's historic Alia Madrasa ground after visiting the shrines of the two saints.

Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury said that preparations are being made to make Tarique Rahman's visit to Sylhet and the public meeting successful.

He said that the public meeting at the city's Alia Madrasa ground will be transformed into the largest public meeting in history with the initiative of Sylhet BNP.

GK Gaus, the central organizing secretary of BNP in charge of Sylhet division, said that Tarique Rahman will address the public meeting as the chief guest in Habiganj on his way back to Dhaka by road.
