Teacher disguised as guest plots to kill Trump at White House

Cole Thomas Allen, the suspect involved in a gun scare at a White House Press' Dinner event attended by US President Donald Trump, has been arrested by law enforcement in Washington, D.C.

Allen, 31, is a resident of Torrance in California, and is a teacher by profession, according to authorities and US media reports.

He was detained at the Washington Hilton hotel after allegedly breaching security and entering the venue before the event began. "He is suspected of posing as a hotel guest prior to try kill president Trump," police said.

Authorities recovered a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives from the suspect. He has been charged with weapons-related offences and assault, with additional charges expected as the investigation continues.

According to officials, a security officer was injured during the incident but was protected by a bulletproof vest and survived. Law enforcement also reported an exchange of gunfire during the confrontation, during which the suspect was subdued and taken into custody.

Witnesses and media reports indicated that multiple shots were fired during the chaos, prompting a rapid security response. President Trump was escorted to safety before the situation escalated. He reportedly stumbled while being moved but was unharmed.

US Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were also present at the event and were safely evacuated.

FBI and Secret Service officials have launched a joint investigation into the motive and circumstances of the incident. Authorities believe the suspect acted alone.

Federal prosecutors have charged Allen with multiple counts related to violent conduct involving firearms and assault on a federal officer. He is expected to appear in court on Monday, with investigators indicating that further charges may follow.

President Trump later said the event would be rescheduled within 30 days, adding that such acts of violence would not deter public engagements or security operations.
