A teenage boy has been arrested for allegedly murdering his elder brother over a dispute involving Tk 500. The incident occurred in Siddheshwarpur village under Rahimpur Union of Kamalganj Upazila.

Police disclosed the details during a press briefing held Monday afternoon at the office of the District Superintendent of Police. Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Nobel Chakma stated that the victim, Abdur Rahim Rafi (26), a local leader of the student political organization Chhatra Dal, was found dead in his home on the morning of August 9. His body bore multiple machete wounds, and his throat had been slashed.

Following initial investigation, police detained the victim’s younger brother, Rana (alias), aged 16, on the same day. Based on intelligence reports, digital evidence, and statements from local residents, Rana was identified as the prime suspect. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime.

According to police, the murder was precipitated by a quarrel the night before, when Rana asked his brother for Tk 500. Rafi refused and allegedly insulted him. The following morning, at approximately 7:00 AM, Rana took advantage of the absence of other family members. He retrieved a sharp machete from under the bed and attacked his sleeping brother, striking him repeatedly on the neck. He then washed the weapon, hid it along with his blood-stained lungi, and attempted to behave normally.

Chakma further stated that the motive extended beyond the monetary dispute. Rana reportedly harbored deep resentment toward his brother due to longstanding family tensions and Rafi’s authoritarian behavior. Rafi had married against the wishes of the family, which led to ongoing conflict within the household and strained relations with Rana.

Police later recovered the murder weapon and the blood-stained clothing from beneath Rana’s bed. The victim’s mother, Monowara Begum, has filed a murder case with Kamalganj Police Station.
